Biomass energy is the energy that green plants convert solar energy into chemical energy through chlorophyll and store in biomass. Biomass power generation is a process in which biomass fuel is directly sent to the boiler for combustion to produce high-temperature and high-pressure steam, which drives the steam turbine to convert heat energy into kinetic energy, and then converts kinetic energy into electric energy through the generator.

Status of biomass energy resources in China

China is rich in biomass energy resources. If fully utilized, it can provide 66.6% of the country's power generation. According to the collection and utilization rate of 50% biomass energy, the potential of China's biomass resources to be converted into energy every year is about 500 million tons of standard coal in the short term and more than 1 billion tons of standard coal in the long term. If we add various energy forests planted on barren mountains and slopes, the resource potential is more than 1.5 billion tons of standard coal.

China is the country with the largest population in the world, and its national economic development is facing the dual pressure of resources and environment. In terms of per capita fossil energy resources, coal resources are only 60% of the world average, oil is only 10% of the world average, and natural gas is only 5%. From the perspective of energy production and consumption, China has become the second largest energy producer and consumer in the world. The environmental pollution caused by the mass production and use of fossil energy has been very serious. Experts believe that with the development of economy and the improvement of people's living standards, China's energy demand will grow rapidly, and the contradiction between energy, environment and economy will become more prominent. Therefore, it is imperative to strengthen the adjustment of energy structure and accelerate the development of renewable energy.

The sown area of crops in China is about 1.5 billion mu, with an annual output of about 700 million tons of biomass. In addition to part of it as papermaking raw materials and animal husbandry feed, the rest can be used as fuel. Agricultural product processing waste, including rice husk, bagasse and cottonseed husk, is about 200 million tons. China's forest area is 175 million hectares. Through normal shrub flat stubble rejuvenation, forest tending, thinning, pruning, collection of cutting, timber making and processing residues, 800 ~ 1 billion tons of biological quality can be obtained every year. The fecal discharge of livestock and poultry breeding industry in China is about 1.8 billion tons, the total amount of sewage discharged is about 20 billion tons, and about 50 billion m3 of biogas can be produced; The annual discharge of organic wastewater and waste residue by industrial enterprises is about 2.5 billion m3, and about 10 billion m3 of biogas can be produced.
